Ebay Selling off Skype

The New York Times confirms that eBay is selling Skype to a group of investors including Marc Andreessen (founder of Mozilla) through its Andreessen Horowitz capital firm, Index Ventures, and Silver Lake Partners for approximately $ 2 billion to the dollars.

In April this year, eBay announced plans to separate Skype and make it an independent company to go public and such announcements  generated interest in potential buyers. Recall that in 2005 Ebay bought Skype for a total of 3.1 billion, surpassing Google and Yahoo offer, the purchase is now known as one of the worst in the industry, especially because they paid too much for a service that never managed to integrate its other properties.

Skype is also in the middle of a bizarre legal problem, the company's original founders, Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis are fighting to obtain the intellectual rights of P2P technology that makes the service work.
