Will the oil spill be stopped in August ?

The British Petroleum company is indicating that the two relief wells are being dug out ahead of schedule and one of them must be able to stop the oil spill in the month of August. But given the start of the hurricane season it is very difficult to expect smooth continuation of the relief well drilling.
If the hurricane impact is negative for a few days or even weeks, then the oil spill could continue beyond August also. The terrain seems to be far beyond the expectation of the British Petroleum technical team, as can be understood from their inability to put a cap on the boiling well on the sea bed.
So expect the mother nature to be kind enough, if the oil spill has to be stopped in August. Otherwise the oil spill might be stopped only in September.

US unable to push through Iran sanctions

US is very seriously trying to get some strong sanctions imposed on Iran through the United Nations, in order to ensure that Iran stops all nuclear related activities. But it is unable to get it passed only because one of the Veto power countries , China, is strongly opposed to that.
The US President tried to convince his Chinese counterpart yesterday on the issue during the Nuclear summit, held in US, but in vain. The Chinese Premier was rather able to convince the US President on the need to avoid further sanctions on Iran for the time being.
So the rising influence of China on all global issues could really pose a big problem for the US and the West.

US and Russia sign nuclear pact

The world is currently filled with nuclear weapons which can destroy the world by over 200 times. And of that, over 60% is held by just two countries, i.e, Russia and US. So these two countries are now getting into the act of destroying a small part of their nuclear pile up over the coming years.
The signing of the treaty was done last week between the two super powers. Even after the planned destruction, these countries would be holding nuclear weapons which can destroy the world over 120 times. All that we can say is that the direction is right, but the pace is grossly inadequate.
